Founder of Canceled Minecraft-Inspired Game Hytale Still Wants to Save the Project

The original founder of Hypixel Studios may now be reaching out to Riot Games to buy Hytale back from the developer, following its recent high-profile cancellation. Originally billed as a competitor to Minecraft, Hytale caught the eyes of many fans when it was first revealed years ago. The game was being developed by the team behind the massively popular "Hypixel" multiplayer Minecraft server, with League of Legends developer Riot Games even purchasing Hypixel Studios in 2020. Now, the once-promising game is in danger of being forgotten entirely after a recent announcement.
Last week saw the announcement that Riot Games would be ending development on Hytale, and the game was officially considered to be canceled. The announcement from Hypixel co-founder Noxy shares the studio's ambitious ideas for the game as one of its biggest downfalls, with the game growing larger in scope than the team could achieve. Hytale's cancellation saw an outcry from many fans looking forward to the Minecraft competitor, trying both to find alternative buyers for the game or save the game altogether. Now, one of the original names involved with Hytale may be stepping back into the ring.

With Minecraft’s Biggest Competitor Canceled After 7 Years, The Door Has Been Firmly Shut
Now that one of Minecraft's biggest competitors has been canceled, Mojang Studio's hit sandbox game will likely remain unrivaled for years to come.
PostsAs reported by GamesRadar, one of Hypixel Studios' original founders may now be looking to buy back in on Hytale. Founder Simon Collins-Laflamme recently shared that he plans to reach out to Riot Games about the canceled Minecraft competitor, intending to make an offer to revive the game. Collins-Laflamme had recently played with the idea of offering $25 million to Riot Games in order to buy back the rights to Hytale, though he did say that any buyback could take months to complete. The Hypixel founder also cautioned fans to keep their expectations in check, with the odds of being able to revive Hytale still low.
Hytale Founder Interested in Buying Canceled Game
The Hypixel founder's interest in buying back into Hytale would not be the only big-name developer who has expressed interest in the game following its cancellation. Stardew Valley creator ConcernedApe recently expressed his potential interest in helping to revive Hytale, after a well-known content creator reached out to the solo developer. ConcernedApe was quick to temper expectations on his own, though, suggesting he would need more information on the project and "why it failed" before buying in.
CloseThe interest among developers in keeping Hytale alive has been joined by an outpouring of support from fans lamenting the loss of Hytale. A petition recently surfaced on Change.org to keep the game alive, requesting that Hypixel Studios or Riot Games provide a playable build of Hytale following its cancellation. The petition has already amassed more than 1,500 signatures from fans, though neither Hypixel nor Riot Games have officially addressed the fan campaign. Hytale's story may not be done yet, with several different parties fighting to keep the game alive.
