Hogwarts Legacy Celebrates Its Best Mods

Avalanche Software gave a shout-out to a set of standout mods for Hogwarts Legacy in a recent update, featuring some incredible efforts by the game’s PC modding community. The 2023 magical action RPG from Avalanche recently added official modding support with the Creator Kit, leading to a rapid surge in user-created content. Since the announcement five months ago, hundreds of creative mods have appeared for Hogwarts Legacy, giving fans new, inventive ways to experience the Wizarding World.

Although modding was certainly possible before Warner Bros. Games made the Creator Kit available to all Hogwarts Legacy players, it has gotten a lot easier since then. Would-be modders who were previously discouraged by the complexity of the process now have a chance to bring their creations to life without worrying about lacking the necessary know-how. More importantly, since the update, users interested in trying out new mods can do so in-game. No more going to third-party websites and wrestling with mod managers and folder structures to add new mods; it’s all baked into the game itself.

In a community update shared on Steam, developer Avalanche Software gave the spotlight to some of the best Hogwarts Legacy mods on CurseForge. The video was relatively short, and not much information was given about the mods themselves beyond the title and the name of their creators, leading some fans in the comment section to become curious.

One of the featured mods, “Azkaban” by nathdev, adds an escape sequence featuring the Wizarding World’s infamous prison, while “Dekita Battle Pets” by DekitaRPG lets players customize, raise, and level up furry companions who can learn spells and assist in fights. Another mod, “Dippa’s Wearable Creatures” by LilDippa, transforms magical beings into wardrobe accessories, giving players a chance to put on outfits inspired by their favorites. “New Spell: Piertotum Locomotor” by Beebub, on the other hand, adds a summoning spell to the list of available options, raising animated suits of armor as battle-ready allies. Visual enhancements also get some attention with “AurorFlight” by Nitros, a mod that adds a glowing trail during broom flight in Hogwarts Legacy.

As history has proven, one of the best ways to keep long-term interest in single-player games alive is through modding. Avalanche Software’s decision to not only allow Hogwarts Legacy’s modding to continue but to actively embrace it is a promising sign for the game's future. The next logical step, if the developers decide to take it, would be to bring official mod support to consoles. A key reason why modding juggernauts like Skyrim have been going strong even years post-launch is thanks to console versions being almost as mod-friendly as their PC versions. If it follows suit, Hogwarts Legacy may also be able to enjoy similar longevity.
