A 1962 Chevrolet Impala restomod blends classic design with modern power, completing 2,000 miles on a national power tour.

A 1962 Chevrolet Impala isn’t typically the first car that comes to mind for a multi-state road tour—but one restomod version of the classic full-size coupe just proved it has the power and poise to run with the best of them.

Chad and Lisa, co-owners of Iowa-based Coyote Classics, recently returned from a grueling 2,000-mile drive as part of a national power tour. Their vehicle of choice? A stunningly restored 1962 Chevrolet Impala restomod built for both show and go.

This Impala may look vintage on the outside, dressed in Dark Red Metallic paint with era-correct badging and brightwork, but under the hood is a modern 6.2-liter LS V8 engine—a far cry from the factory 283 or 409. Paired to a 4-speed manual transmission and a Posi rear end with 3.11 gears, the restomod delivers both highway reliability and aggressive performance.

Inside, the car features a custom leather bucket seat interior, updated with creature comforts like Vintage Air A/C, a digital dash, and even USB and USBC ports for charging modern devices. The cockpit manages to walk the line between retro charm and daily-driver practicality.

Four-wheel power disc brakes give the classic muscle car confident stopping ability, while a show-quality engine bay and impeccable detailing hint at the hours of craftsmanship behind the build.

According to the owners, the car didn’t just survive the 2,000-mile tour—it excelled. “This wasn’t just a trailer queen,” Chad said. “It was built to drive, and that’s exactly what we did.”

As the restomod movement continues to gain traction among collectors and enthusiasts, examples like this 1962 Impala demonstrate how blending old-school style with modern engineering can result in a car that turns heads at shows—and conquers the open road.
