Dave the Diver will receive a free Nintendo Switch 2 upgrade, according to a recent confirmation by developer Mintrocket. The pixel-art deep-sea adventure and restaurant management sim became one of the standout successes of 2023 after its initial PC launch, which was soon followed by a Nintendo Switch release in October. Dave the Diver wowed fans with its unique blend of quirky humor, lovable characters, and an addictive gameplay loop.

Mintrocket used to be a Nexon-owned venture, a fact that sparked controversy at the 2023 Game Awards when Dave the Diver was nominated as an indie. Though the company has since separated from Nexon, it remains a subsidiary corporation under its umbrella. Despite marketing hiccups, and a somewhat murky indie status, the game sits at a comfortable “Overwhelmingly Positive” on Steam, with sales reaching over 5 million units just seven months ago. Since release, the studio has pushed out multiple updates, DLCs, and crossovers for this genre-blending title, cementing its commitment to long-term post-launch support. Dave the Diver’s Switch version reviews have been nothing short of stellar, and now it's set to receive Switch 2 upgrades.

Under the Dave the Diver’s 2-year anniversary celebration YouTube video, the Mintrocket official account commented, “We will be providing free Switch 2 Upgrade soon!” in response to a user’s request for more details. Specifics about the upgrade weren’t shared, however, and there is no official statement on the developers’ Twitter account or the game’s official website yet, which means that, for now, fans can only speculate about what it will entail. There was also no mention of the Switch 2 upgrade within the video itself, which mainly involved celebratory messages from Dave the Diver’s previous collaborators and some more details about the upcoming expansion.

While this announcement didn’t come with an official release date, the wording strongly implies the upgrade is already in development, possibly slated for release later this year. It’s entirely possible players might see a shadow drop soon as a means to beef up the Switch 2’s somewhat slim lineup. Upgrade-wise, there may be some visual enhancements or quality-of-life improvements in store. More importantly, the Switch 2’s stronger hardware will likely facilitate a bump to native 60 FPS, something that’s sadly been impossible to achieve for the Switch 1.

Best of all, this good news likely isn’t only reserved for Switch 2 owners. Considering the timeline, it’s possible that Dave the Diver’s delayed “In the Jungle” DLC might also be released alongside the upgrade. It would certainly be an excellent way to kickstart an influx of new players to the game. However, if this is indeed the case, it would also mean that the Switch 2 upgrade won’t arrive before early 2026, as lead director and head of Mintrocket Studio, Jaeho Hwang, has confirmed the release window for the upcoming DLC already.
