UFC And MMA Star Randy Couture Injured In Racetrack Accident

UFC and MMA star Randy Couture was reportedly seriously injured after crashing in a racetrack accident in Kansas City. The retired professional fighter has more recently taken up NHRA drag racing and put his car into the wall during a practice run.

Red Bull’s former team principle might be headed to Ferrari.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t a crash Couture walked away from. He was airlifted to a hospital after suffering first- and second-degree burns, smoke inhalation, and trauma injuries from the impact, reports TMZ.

That doesn’t sound good at all. However, it seems he’s expected to recover. Hey, the guy’s a fighter and has been injured plenty of times before.

It’s unclear what led to the drag strip crash, whether it was driver error, a mechanical fault, or something else.

But this crash casts doubt on whether or not Couture will push ahead with competing in the NHRA pro stock division. We’re guessing he’s going to miss the upcoming season, but would he go for it next year?

Racing is a dangerous sport, and these sorts of things happen even with abundant caution. And even with all the safety devices in Couture’s car, not to mention the protective gear he was wearing, the man was still seriously injured.

But Couture has said before racing for him was another way to let his competitive side flourish. After all, he’s retired from fighting.

Drag racing is a lot different from hitting and wrapping up an opponent in the ring. It’s far more technical than most people realize and takes a long time to master. Considering Couture is a newbie, it’s amazing he was already pushing to compete at such a high level.

However, we’re going to avoid any speculation. The crash might not have been his fault or something he could avoid.

We just wish him a speedy and full recovery from his many injuries.
